DIGITAL PRESENTATION PROGRAM

FINAL REPORT - MINIGRANT #23

KinetiX, Inc. and Barbour County Community Development Corporation (CDC) have acquired the necessary software and equipment to produce low cost high definition video. In addition, a demo DVD presentation has been completed that shows many examples of techniques that can be used to convey a visual message. We believe this 5-minute presentation will allow its viewers to understand the reasons video presentations are important to their business or purpose, and establish a confidence that they will be able to accomplish making one. The KinetiX team has already begun making presentations using this demo video.

First to use this new service, Barbour County CDC received assistance with production of a video to present industrial park space to the business community. The popular video was viewed more than 200 times during the first month it was posted on YouTube. “We are very pleased with how easy it was to work with the Kinetix video team,” said Jerry Edens, Executive Director of Barbour County CDC. “We have posted the video on several websites and include links to the video in most of our email communications. It has really improved our ability to show business people the type of facilities available for lease in our county.”

Our video service has significantly reduced the cost of producing a video from an industry standard rate of about $1,000 per finished minute to a starting cost of only $500 for a visually simple 1 to 2 minute video. In addition, the KinetiX team provides step-by-step assistance to lead untrained video clients through the process of putting a message together. By helping build a relevant message and using professional filming and editing methods, KinetiX allows businesses and organizations that would have never attempted making a video, to produce presentations they will be proud to share.

The businesses and community organizations in the Alliance of Champion Communities territories now have access to low cost professional video production services.

We found a need for clients to review video projects in progress at their locations. By adding an Apple Power Book Pro to the equipment mix, we are able to transport a mini-studio to clients throughout the state. Purchasing through non-profit programs reduced the cost of software enough to allow purchase of the additional equipment within the original budget.

Although it is easy for people to see the advantages of having and using a video, it seems difficult for most to organize their message, plan the imagery and collect all the pieces they want to include. We realize we need to offer help with message development and organizing the production issues and offer this service as well.

LOW COST VIDEO SERVICES AVAILABLE IN CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA

High definition video projects are now in reach of thousands of community groups and small businesses in Central West Virginia. Providing production services starting at just $500 for a visually simple 1 to 2 minute video, KinetiX, Inc. (a nonprofit based in Nicholas County) offers state-of-the-art multi-media products.

“Our goal is to help businesses and organizations embrace internet-based marketing opportunities,” explains KinetiX President Gwen Hagaman. “Beyond basic websites, many groups are unaware of multi-media opportunities and how to use them. We believe video presentations coupled with the power of the internet are a strong and affordable tool to advance a purpose, share information, or promote a productline.”

The KinetiX team developed a sample video presentation that explains ways video presentations can be used. “There are so many uses for digital video,” says Norvill Clark, Executive Director. “We all have seen information loops running at trade shows and in lobbys. Video brochures can be mailed to customers on DVDs instead of sending expensive printed brochures. Repetitive information, such as a course, medical information, or step-by-step instructions can be recorded and accessed on DVDs or online. KinetiX loves online uses of video. We invite you to watch our video demo at www.kinetixwv.com.”

According to Clark, using video reduces the cost of repeating physical presentations and provides better consistency of the material presented. Using video online allows viewers immediate access to the information at a time of their convenience.

A mini-grant program, sponsored by the Alliance of Champion Communities and funded by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, helped establish the new video service and the acquisition of audio and video capture equipment, editing software and production tools.
